
Amber Baird, Katie Goetzinger combine on no-hitter for #22 Wayne State softball in 2-0 win over Millersville (Pa.), and SOUTHERN INDIANA RALLIES FOR 4-3 WIN OVER WAYNE STATE BASEBALL

Amber Baird and Katie Goetzinger combined on a no-hitter Monday afternoon to lead the 22nd-ranked Wayne State College softball team in a 2-0 win over Millersville (Pa.) at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Later in the day, the Wildcats topped Post University of Connecticut 8-2 to improve to 5-1 on their spring trip and 8-2 overall.
The first game saw Baird work six innings with eight strikeouts while Goetzinger notched the save in the seventh with one strikeout while the two held Millersville without a hit in a 2-0 win. Senior outfielder Amy Sandstrom, junior catcher Sam Earleywine and sophomore third baseman Brittany Greenwood each recorded two hits in the win for the Wildcats.
The second game saw Jennifer Radley go 3 for 4 with two RBI's to spark the Wildcats in a 8-2 win over Post University of Connecticut. Freshman outfielder Kassie Nurton added two hits in the win in support of winning pitcher Michele Hogan.
Wayne State is off on Tuesday and will resume play at the NTC Spring Games on Wednesday with games against American International College of Massachusetts at 11:30 a.m. and Belmont Abbey at 1:30 p.m.
Baseball Game
Southern Indiana scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday evening to rally for a 4-3 win over Wayne State College in non-conference college baseball at the Dunn Hospitality Tournament in Evansville , Indiana . WSC drops to 4-9 on the season with the heartbreaking loss while Southern Indiana improves to 9-4.
Southern Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Wes Fink scored on an RBI single by Wandy Rosario to give the Eagles the early lead. Wayne State came back with three runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead thanks to a two-out rally. With two outs and the bases empty, Jake Ritzdorf reached on a bunt single down the third base line followed by a single by Nick Bidroski. John Plasha laced a single up the middle to score Ritzdorf and Justin Beranek singled to right field scoring Bidroski and Plasha to put the ‘Cats in front 3-1.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth inning when the host Eagles used three straight hits to open the inning setting the tone for a three run rally. Rosario tripled to left center field to score the first run followed by a Brad Vance RBI single that scored Rosario to tie the score at 3-3. The eventual game winning run was produced on a Dylan Mooney sacrifice fly to center field that scored Vance to make the score 4-3.
Southern Indiana had nine hits in the game to seven for WSC. Nick Bidroski was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Justin Beranek had a two-run single while Joe Wendte, Jake Ritzdorf, John Plasha and Brandon Polk also had hits for WSC.
John Snyder (0-3) suffered the pitching loss despite a strong outing. The senior right hander allowed four runs on eight hits over seven innings of work with six strikeouts and one walk. Trevor Reeves pitched the final inning and gave up just one hit with one strikeout and no walks.
Wayne State will continue its spring break trip on Wednesday and Thursday when the Wildcats face Upper Iowa in games to be played in Topeka , Kansas .
